Watchet Festival organisers pulled out all the stops for their 25th community fund-raising event at the weekend in perfect weather.

The capacity crowd enjoyed scores of top acts including Level 42, Belinda Carlisle, The Wurzels, Dreadzone, Scouting for Girls, Doctor and The Medics, The Fratellis, Alabama 3, Skinny Lister, Cult Capers, Odyssey, Mr Bruce and Sleeper.

Spokesman for the organisers, Mark Bale, reported a capacity maximum crowd of 5,000 including all the on-site staff , performers and helpers. He said: “We are a volunteer-led community event for covering the cost of Watchet community entertainments throughout the year such as the annual carnival and Christmas events. That has been our ethos since we started with a little festival on the East Quay 25 years ago and this principle remains, though the event has evolved and we have come a long way.”

He stressed that the event ran "very smoothly" with everyone he knew reporting they had a good time.

Several of the top acts congratulated the organisers on the smooth running and stunning environment of their site.

"These entertainers told us we could teach many top festivals a thing or two about how to do things properly," he said.

The festival wore a fabulous array of outfits from superheroes to Marilyn Monroe.

An extremely popular hands-on entertainment was The Silent Disco, promoting Elliot's Touch, a Watchet-based charity to fund research and cures for mitochondrial disease and cardiomyopathy in children.
