SIR — How disappointing that only by reading an advertisement in last week’s Free Press that the West Somerset College was seeking a farm assistant for weekends until the end of February 2017 could it be deduced that the farm unit was continuing beyond September 2016.

This was a perfect opportunity for the college to be pro-active and demonstrate its willingness to keep the community informed of developments.

The community’s interest and concern has been well demonstrated over recent months with letters, petition and emails. As it was, it was left to the chance reading of an advertisement.

For the sake of all the young people growing up in the area, the community wants the college to be successful. It wants to support the college but needs to be kept informed of developments.

Good public relations cost nothing but mean a great deal.
