THE atmosphere in the sixth form common room at West Somerset Community College was said to be "electric" as elections were held for the sixth form college executive.

Everyone wanted to hear the 11 candidates who were standing for six seats on the executive, or student council.

Competition was stronger than ever thanks to the efforts of the current year 13 executive in raising its profile and stressing the importance of involvement.

The candidates presented a variety of reasons for wanting to be elected - Rose Davey, for example, had composed a song about it, Liz Tomlinson handed out sweets to press home the need for generosity, and Mat Matravers expressed his belief in serving the majority.

Deputy head of sixth form Rosanne Collinson said: "This was an excellent assembly demonstrating the talent, imagination, commitment and general high calibre of the students currently in the sixth form.

"The entire event was a tribute to the current year 13 executive, the potential year 12 candidates and the morale and attitude of the sixth form students in general."
