A GROUP aiming to set up a community pool for Minehead has received a £2,500 boost.

Members of the Minehead Pool Project were handed the cheque by Tesco management in Minehead, to help set up a Community Interest Company (CIC) and take the project forward.

Now the CIC will be formally set up in the next few weeks, and members of the project are due to meet with Minehead Town Council members in October to discuss a possible site.

“We are very grateful to Tesco to help us on our way towards a pool for our community,” said Peter Wellstood, a retired Porlock based former engineer, who started the project.

“There are many administrative hurdles to overcome before we can even start raising money for the actual build but we can now set up the CIC which will allow us to hopefully secure land and further funding.”

Tesco manager Lisa Buss said they were keen to support the local community in many ways: “The £2,500 contribution is just the start. I am happy to join the CIC as a director to ensure that we continue to work together towards a community pool for Minehead.”

She and Mr Wellstood will be joined on the CIC board by Exmoor Tourism development manager Elke Winzer, Visit Somerset CEO John Turner and Richard Havers, Exmoor Ambassador.
