AN appeal has been made by Minehead Town Council for volunteers to help with Christmas celebrations - in 2026.
It follows the ‘resounding success’ of 2025 festive events in the town, which had a Victorian theme running through them.
The town centre was transformed into a festive wonderland when Minehead’s Christmas lights were switched on at the end of November.
The Victorian Christmas event marked the start of Minehead’s festive celebrations, bringing the town alive with music, laughter, and ‘the unmistakable spirit of community’.
Now, the town council, which funded and hosted the event in collaboration with Minehead Together Business Association, is asking for people to step forward to help with the 2026 celebrations.
A council spokesperson said: “This event is driven by you, our amazing community.
“If you would like to be part of making Minehead Victorian Christmas 2026 even more special, please get in touch with Minehead Town Council.
“Your ideas, energy, and, most importantly, involvement make all the difference.”
Thousands of people packed the town centre for the 2025 lights switch-on, enjoying late-night shopping, a bustling Christmas market, and the magical Victorian-themed atmosphere.
Local businesses extended their hours, and beautifully decorated streets sparkled under festive lights.
An enchanting lantern parade led by the historic Original Sailor’s Hobby Horse was followed by Foxes Academy students proudly switching on the lights for the highlight of the evening.
Live performances from local choirs, dance groups, local musicians, and community groups on stage added to the vibrant atmosphere, creating an unforgettable night for all.
The council spokesperson said: “Community spirit was at the heart of this success.”

They said town council extended its ‘deepest gratitude’ to everybody who made the event possible:
● Community volunteers and marshals whose dedication ensured the event ran smoothly and safely
● Core Highways for exceptional traffic management and keeping the town accessible
● Minehead and Coast Development Trust for its ‘incredible contribution and support’ and a special thank you to Zara Aitken, whose energy and commitment truly made a difference
● St John Ambulance and local emergency services and all safety teams for their vital support
● Local businesses, performers, and charities for bringing energy and creativity to the festivities
● DJ Nick Manning for keeping the crowds entertained throughout the evening
● Jodie and Seb Thresher-Walton for their hard work and invaluable support in creating the event
● Paul from the Eat and Drink Arts Festival for his professionalism and organised approach
● Minehead Together Business Association, Rotary Club of Minehead, Minehead Lions, Somerset Council, and suppliers such as Active Signs and CJ Lynch and Sons
The spokesperson said: “Special thanks also go to the residents and visitors whose enthusiasm made the evening truly magical.
“Free parking, carefully planned road closures, and diversion routes helped keep the town moving, while the efforts of all involved ensured minimal disruption and maximum enjoyment.
“Minehead Victorian Christmas 2025 was more than an event, it was a celebration of community, tradition and togetherness.
“We look forward to welcoming everybody back next year for another spectacular evening.”
