AN AWARD-winning biographical comedy-drama will be showing at a theatre in Minehead this January.
‘Blue Moon’ stars Ethan Hawke as Lorenz Hart, lyricist and creative partner to Oscar Hammerstein in the Broadway songwriting team who wrote timeless classics such as ‘The Lady is a Tramp’, ‘My Funny Valentine’, ‘Manhattan’ and ‘Blue Moon’.
The film is set in 1943 on the opening night of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s groundbreaking new Broadway musical, ‘Oklahoma!’ as Hart reflects his split with Hammerstein while observing his former colleague’s burgeoning creative partnership with Richard Rodgers, played in award-winning performance by Andrew Scott.
Directed by Richard Linklater, ‘Blue Moon’ is full of humanity, insight, humour and pathos with critically acclaimed performances from Margaret Qualley as Hart’s protégé Elizabeth and Bobby Cannavale as Hart’s bartender, buddy and confidante.
’Blue Moon’ is a meditation on friendship, art and love, featuring a rich tapestry of writers, actors, musicians, friends and protégés – a parade of the famous and the soon-to-be-famous.
By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world irrevocably changed by the war, and the seeming impossibility of love.
The American biographical film had its world premiere at the main competition of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, 2025, where it won the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for Andrew Scott.
‘Blue Moon’ was theatrically released in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics on October 17 2025, and received positive reviews from critics.
The Guardian praised Ethan Hawke’s performance, giving it four stars out of five.
‘Blue Moon’ will be showing at the Regal Theatre, Minehead on Tuesday, January 6, at 7.30 pm.
Tickets are £6 and available via The Regal Theatre website or by calling the box office on 01643 706430.
