SIR — To those who choose to light bonfires, please would you try and have some thought and consideration for those living nearby?

On a beautiful sunny day, which is a rarity these days, with your windows open and washing on the line, being engulfed in acrid smelling clouds of white smoke is really not that pleasant.

The only bonus was that the wife found it difficult talking with her gas mask on!
