GRADUATES in Somerset are being invited to search out a new career they might not have even considered.
Police Now, the UK’s only national graduate programme into policing, is inviting applications for next year’s intake of trainee neighbourhood officers.
The roles need people who can pay attention to detail, lead by example and help build trust within their communities.
Head of recruitment at Police Now, Katryna Smyth, said: “We are looking for people who are interested in problem solving, team building and partnership work, which are themes that are really prevalent in the policing world.
“Perhaps they are an analytical thinker who is passionate about making a change in their community. Or someone with sharp instincts and a commitment to justice.
“Applicants don’t need to have any prior policing knowledge or experience, but they must support our mission to make change where it matters most.”
While a degree is not required to take the standard route into policing, Police Now specialise in recruiting graduates with at least a 2:2 from any number of degree subjects.
Their two-year programme combines classroom lessons with on-the-job training. For neighbourhood officers that means 11 weeks getting to grips with core policing skills, including personal and public safety, which will help them step into their uniformed role.
They will then work alongside officers in their chosen force, gaining first-hand experience and applying their academy knowledge in real-life situations.
The programme’s performance and development coaches will then offer structured training, mentorship and support as trainees continue their journey in the policing world, introducing them to opportunities where they can make a meaningful difference.
Graduates on the programme train in one of four specialisms: neighbourhoods, detective, economic crime, or counter terrorism.
