A NEW hard-standing area in front of Williton’s war memorial at the recreation ground was officially opened and dedicated at a parish council ceremony.

A dedication service was conducted by the Rev Tina McDonald, and Cllr Rosemary Woods, one of the village’s two representatives on West Somerset Council, cut the tape.

She was assisted by parish council vice-chairman Robert McDonald, who is also chairman of the Royal British Legion in Somerset, and Williton Royal British Legion chairman Bert Pearson.

The funding for the area came from West Somerset Council via S106 money.

The ceremony was followed by a coffee morning organised by the Royal British Legion Women’s Section, with the money raised going to this year’s Poppy Appeal.
