Re the dangerous road in Washford and possible pedestrian crossing (Free Press April 13), isn’t the obvious answer to slow traffic down?
Many villages have traffic calming of some sort in the form of humps, 20mph speed limits, chicanes etc.
This would probably cause hold-ups in the traffic at peak times but would be worth it. Drivers might even avoid travelling at such times.
Bilbrook, Washford and Blue Anchor seem to be totally forgotten when it comes to restricting speeding drivers.
It is virtually impossible to walk alongside their roads as pavements are almost non-existent.
In Blue Anchor, where many dog owners live, we dice with death walking down to the beach. The road is narrow and no pavement at all.
Traffic is very heavy during the holiday season and getting worse. I would think that the majority of drivers disregard the 30mph limit, some travelling at 40 or 50 mph.
A few humps in the road would sort the problem overnight, and a sign to remind drivers of their speed would have a positive effect.
If other villages can use these measures to make a difference, why can’t we in Blue Anchor? I would even be happy to sponsor a hump or two!
M Conrad, Blue Anchor.
