WATCHET travelled to top of the league side Taunton Outcasts and pulled off the shock of the day with a nail-biting two-run victory.

Watchet batted first for the tenth consecutive game and made a solid start with Rod Richards scoring 23 and David Milton scoring 15.

The main partnership was between the in-form middle order pair of Clive Strong and Andrew Woodward, who put on 55 runs for the fifth wicket before Woodward was bowled by Warren for 25.

Captain Clive Strong again top scored with 47 but this was a more defensive innings against the pacey Mason.

Andy Pyne and Liam Woolgrove used the last ten overs well for Watchet, giving no overs away to a keen Outcast side who had Paul Warren bowling well and taking 6-35.

Watchet made an impressive start as Woolgrove had the hard hitting Andy Mason trapped lbw.

After 14 overs Outcasts were on course for victory at 52-1 but Norman Yaw picked up two quick wickets and Andy Pyne another to reduce the home team to 100-6.

Matt Lovell was reintroduced into the attack and, as in previous weeks, he changed the course of the game .

First he trapped Sean Lee lbw for 89 and then took three more wickets in an aggressive spell to finish with excellent figures of 4-31 from 13 overs.

For Watchet's last two victories Liam Woolgrove has come back on and taken the final wicket and he duly obliged again when he bowled Collier for a duck.

If Watchet win their final game at home to Hardington tomorrow they should stay up, which would cap an excellent second half of the season.

Watchet: 161 (C Strong 47, A Woodward 25, R Richards 23, P Warren 6-35).

Taunton Outcasts: 159 (S Lee, M Lovell 4-31, N Yaw 3-63, L Woolgrove 2-30).
