St Dubricius First School in Porlock decided not to stage its traditional nativity in St Dubricius Church because of the Covid-19 restrictions currently in place.
But class teacher Sue Flatley wanted to create something that still had the church at its centre and could be enjoyed by the whole community remotely.
And with the help of her teaching assistant Mrs Toth they created a nativity story which moves around the school and its grounds, and features carols sung by St Dubricius Church choir.
Local media company View It 360 gave their time to record and edit the performances, and Threads of Minehead gave materials for costumes.
The video can be viewed on the school website, www.stdubriciuscofeschool.co.uk
Headteacher Alison Oakley said: “It has been such a difficult year for everyone – we hope our nativity performances will bring a little Christmas cheer to our community. We have had to adapt so many of the usual Christmas activities in school to ensure nothing was cancelled, only re-invented.”
The school would normally have used its nativities to raise funds for a specific project but little fundraising has been possible this year.
Instead, a crowdfunding page has been set up to collect donations towards its library re-vamp, details of which can be found on the school’s website.
