SIR — Apparently the sand on the seafront at Minehead was going to be cleared weather permitting, and I have to agree that the diggers have been clearing the way for the pedestrians, but no thought has been given to road safety whatsoever, bearing in mind the zebra crossings.
Who would pay should a pedestrian get hit by a car coming off the roundabout that can't stop?
Myself and many other drivers who know that the sand is there can still feel the car move as you go around the roundabout, and luckily both my wife and myself knew it was there when, on separate occasions, we went out on our motorcycles.
It was more like teetering than steering - sand and brakes do not mix well!
Imagine the result if a group of visitors arrived on their motorcycles at the weekend, had their sausage and chips and a cuppa, chatted to people about bikes, all pulled away thinking "what a great day" and then ran their mate over who had gone down on the sandy roundabout.
Come on council, I know we're skint, but what price do you put on safety!
