YOUNGSTERS in Williton will be missing out on some 'grandma quality' following the retirement of long serving pre-school worker Rose Bulpin. Rose ended a 25-year relationship with the village's children when she reluctantly relinquished a role that has been at the centre of her life. There were flowers and plenty of tears on her last day at the newly named Little Horseshoes Nursery - formerly St Peter's Pre-School. Nursery manager Rebecca Polsom said: "Rose will be hugely missed by both the children and staff. "She had a wonderful old fashioned way and warm personality. She always treated everyone the same and we will miss the old skills that she passed onto the children, like the importance of families sitting down together for a meal. "She had a real grandma-like quality that the children loved and for some children who don't see their grandparents very much was very important." Rose has followed the pre-school around a series of locations, from its first base in the recreation ground to St Peter's School and later to a portacabin on the old Bridge Street playing field. The organisation later moved to the Danesfield campus and then to the new St Peter's School. She leaves just as the nursery changes its name with the partial move into Williton's new children's centre, a SureStart project. Although the St Peter's base will continue to cater for youngsters aged from three to five, the children's centre will take those aged from six weeks to three years, as well as providing office space for SureStart staff and a venue for family- based work. Rose was given a fitting send-off with a party attended by many of those she had previously helped care for, their parents and former work colleagues. In addition to a bouquet, she was also presented with a gift voucher and a specially made book of pictorial memories. "It was a very sad occasion for us all," said Mrs Polsom. "But I'm sure it won't be long before Rose is getting involved in some other sort of community work."
