THE RSPCA has launched an investigation after a total of of 56 'husky-type' dogs, along with a number of birds, cats and chinchillas, were removed from a property in Minehead.

Officers from the charity visited the home in a residential area of the town on Monday following concerns about conditions.

An RSPCA spokesman said the animals were removed on veterinary advice by police and passed into the care of the charity.

They are currently receiving veterinary treatment, where necessary, before being transferred to an RSPCA centre.

"As this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further at this stage," said the spokesman.

"As the animals are currently subject to an ongoing investigation we are not able to seek new homes for them at present."
