TOWNS and villages across West Somerset united in a technicolour display of patriotism as they joined forces to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey on Friday.

From street parties and fancy dress parades to hat competitions and wedding exhibitions, West Somerset had them all.

Events were organised across the district against a backdrop of Union Jacks and red, white and blue bunting to honour the royal couple.

Local schools staged their celebrations a day early on Thursday as pupils were given the day off school to both watch the wedding and enjoy street parties with their family and friends.

The majority of workers were also given an extra day's holiday to mark the occasion - although there was no rest for Free Press photographer Steve Guscott who was out and about across West Somerset to capture the celebrations.
