Minehead residents have stepped into a row over dog mess which erupted after claims emerged of owners not picking up after their furry friends in Blenheim Gardens.

In a Facebook group for Minehead residents, sightings of dog foul were described as 'maddening' and 'totally disgusting.'

Kim Clark said: "It's really maddening for the likes of me who is a responsible dog owner."

David Chilcott said: "Dog poo in the Irnham Recreation Ground as well, totally disgusting."

Nancy Harman said: "I'm always telling people not to walk their dogs there. 50 per cent ignore me and 50 per cent shout abuse."

The park, which imposes a putative ban on dogs entering it, has suffered from antisocial behaviour for a number of years.

Last month, police pledged a crackdown on antisocial behaviour, after officers retrieved bags of waste discarded by parkgoers.

One resident, whose house overlooks the troubled park, said it wasn't just dogs leaving their mess behind. Speaking to the Free Press anonymously the resident said:

"They are leaving poo, wee, they are doing drugs, they’re leaving drinks, they’re using that place as a toilet. In the daytime children play there, it’s not nice."

“The park is beautiful but they leave loads of rubbish there, all the drinks, food, all the drugs, and they’re using it as a toilet.”

The longstanding antisocial behaviour problem has previously seen the fire brigade rush to the park, after a palm tree was destroyed by arsonists.
