A PORLOCK man who threatened to rape a 17-year-old girl during a violent late-night attack in which he wielded a knife and brandished a bottle has been jailed for 13 months.

Taunton Crown Court was told on Friday that Edward Perkins, 20, of High Street, was drug and alcohol dependent.

During the assault in Minehead last November, Perkins carried three different blades and punched, kicked and bit the girl.

The court was told that the victim was terrified as Perkins made repeated threats to cut and rape her.

He also admitted carrying a bottle and a hunting knife with a seven-inch blade as he tried to force his way into the flat of an acquaintance the morning after the incident.

Perkins pleaded guilty to all charges and received an eight-month jail sentence for causing actual bodily harm and four months for possession of a blade.

He was given a further month for previous offences of criminal damage and public disorder, for which he had originally received a conditional discharge, and two months - to run concurrently - for violent entry.

The court issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting the girl for three years.
