A MAN who went on a driving rampage in a ‘military-style truck’ through his home village of Norton Fitzwarren appeared before a crown court judge on Friday (October 13).
Geoff Marshall, aged 41, of Station Road, had previously admitted charges of assault and multiple counts of criminal damage after he smashed his truck through a police road block.
The incident started on Sunday, September 10, when police were called to his home after an argument between Marshall and his partner about text messages she had found on his mobile phone.
Marshall then jumped into his World War Two US Army-style truck and drove off, smashing into four police vehicles and five cars belonging to neighbours.
After driving six miles to the A361 bridge over the M5 motorway at Walford Cross, between Taunton and North Petherton, Marshall climbed over the bridge’s railings, causing police to close both the north and southbound carriageways.
He appeared for sentencing before Judge Edward Burgess in Taunton Crown Court, which was sitting in Worle, Weston-super-Mare, due to restoration works ongoing in Shire Hall, Taunton, on one count of dangerous driving, 12 counts of criminal damage, and one of battery.
However, the case was adjourned at the request of the prosecution barrister for further evidence to be produced and Marshall was remanded in custody to appear again on November 10.
