MORE than 1,000 items have been repaired in the three years in which Porlock Repair Café has been operating.
It amounts to 82 per cent of the items people have taken to the repair café, which returns to the village hall on Saturday (August 30).
The types of items repaired include clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, toys, tools, mechanical phones, and electronics.
The repair café has 15 volunteer repairers ‘who can tackle most items’, and also hosts Somerset Council’s Fixy van from time to time.
A spokesperson said: “We would love to try and restore an item for you, or at least confirm it is time to let it go for something new.
“While you are waiting to see a repairer you can take advantage of, for a small contribution, the available coffee, tea, and cakes.
“Actually, we have a few people who come in just for the homemade cakes and a chat with friends.”
The Fixy van attended the May event in Porlock and collected 38 kg of electrical items, which will have had their data wiped before either being issued to somebody in need or having their key material extracted for re-use.
The haul included 14 mobile phones, five laptops, and six tablets.
Anybody with similar items they no longer need can still donate unwanted smart tech at the Donate IT drop-off point at Minehead Eye, in Mart Road, Minehead on Monday to Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
The spokesperson said anybody who was unsure if the repair café had a volunteer who could look at their item and wanted to check before taking it along should email [email protected] with details of the item so advice can be given.
The August 30 repair café runs from 10 am to 12 noon.
