PORLOCK Carnival funds have helped boost the village library’s initiative to encourage children to read more.

Run by Porlock Community Library for children in the village and the surrounding area, the Winter Reading Challenge asks the children to read 12 books.

The children, aged four to 12, have until April 9 to collect ’Challenge Cards’ for each book that they read.

All participants will be given a medal and those that complete the challenge will also receive a certificate.

Porlock Carnival Committee has donated £150 towards the challenge and the cheque was presented by carnival committee member Chris Gladstone to library volunteers Mary Perkins, Amanda Elliott and Kay Wright.
