OT dry weather making life difficult for gardeners meant it was “a bit of a worry” as to whether there would be any entries to this year’s Porlock Horticultural and Crafts Society Summer Show.
But, although there were fewer flower exhibits than in other years, entries of vegetables were much higher than usual.
And despite the challenging growing conditions, judges commented on the high quality of entries.
As usual, the show was well supported, with several exhibitors making their first appearance.

Porlock hosts music and entertainment and dashing Santas as festive season continuesThe organisers said that exhibitors in the decorative section showed great imagination in responding to the chosen themes: “The intricate detail of the miniature arrangements was particularly impressive, but a lot of thought and skill could also be seen in the other classes.”
Imagination and skill were also the order of the day in the handicrafts section which showcased many items, some made for a particular purpose and some purely decorative.
The themes in the photography section lent themselves to a broad range of interpretations, too, and the homemade drinks were few but “delicious”.
The afternoon culminated in a presentation of cups and trophies by sponsor Steve Fitzgerald, of Seapoint.
