Elections will only be needed for three of the town and parish councils in the area.

All the others have either the exact number of nominations for the vacant seats or fewer than are required.

In those cases, all those nominated are automatically elected as councillors, and the remaining vacancies will have to be filled by co-opting further members in due course.

The only people who will have a chance to vote for their town or parish council are those in the North Ward of Minehead Town Council, Porlock and Wiveliscombe.

Minehead’s North Ward has four candidates competing for three seats - Oliver Harvey, Anne Lawton, John Malin and Terry Venner.

Porlock Parish Council has 14 candidates for 12 seats and Wiveliscombe Town Council has 23 candidates for 18 seats. For details, see this week’s Free Press.
