A MINEHEAD supermarket has reopened following the unexplained death nearby of a man said to be aged in his 30s.
The man was found outside the Lidl supermarket off Seaward Way shortly before 5 am on Saturday (May 16) by staff arriving to start their morning shift.
Police cordoned off the store while a forensics team examined the scene before shoppers were allowed back in later in the day.
South Western Ambulance Services NHS Trust (SWAST) paramedics arrived to treat the man but he was declared dead at the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police said the man had been identified and his next of kin informed, although he had not been named publicly.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time and they are being offered support.
“We were called just before 5 am by the ambulance service who were administering treatment to a man in his 30s.
“Sadly, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The spokesperson said while the man’s death was ‘unexplained’, there were no suspicious circumstances.
They said there would be a ‘heightened police presence’ in the area while inquiries into the man’s death were carried out.
Anybody who was in the area or who may have witnessed anything is being asked to call police on 101 and give the reference number 5226134077.
