PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works.

Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.

Here is one of the latest applications submitted to Mid-Devon Council for Tiverton:

Owners of Appledore Farm at Burlescombe in Tiverton are seeking permission for the erection of a farm produce shed.

The site would also include associated parking with a picnic area and play area at Appledore Farm for the sale of eggs produced on the farm and other local farm produce.

The Kitteridge family have owned the land at Burlescombe since the 1960’s with their holding extending over 250 acres, with the primary farming enterprises being arable and free range egg production which they have been selling successfully from their farm. The Farming business also includes rearing beef cattle, plus some sheep and alpacas.

The applicants have developed a strong customer base worked hard to build up a sizeable and successful free range egg business selling and delivering almost entirely direct to customers and shops within the surrounding area.

In addition they now sell circa 100 dozen eggs per week from the farm gate directly to the public. The statement from their agent Luscombe May says this has grown organically through word of mouth with no advertising and “the applicants value this direct relationship with customers and wish to improve the current offering.”

They are looking to expand to offer good quality locally produced food and seek for a direct or real relationship with producers in the local area.

The proposed site is an existing 0.8 hectare arable field, currently tilled to winter wheat; the field is part of the wider open farming / pastoral landscape.

The statement concludes: “The proposed development accords with both national and local planning policy. It supports a sustainable rural business, enhances farm diversification, improves operational efficiency and biosecurity, and is of a scale, design and siting appropriate to its countryside location. The proposal therefore complies with the development plan and should be granted planning permission.”
