PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works.
Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.
Here is one of the latest road closures submitted to Somerset Council:
The public consultation is currently open on an application by Aldi for illuminated signage for the store on West Buckland Road.
Aldi Stores Ltd gained planning permission in March for a supermarket to be built on land in Chelston off the A38 relief road opposite the Westpark 26 and Wellington Business Park. Construction has commenced with completion expected in December.
They are now seeking permission to display two internally illuminated wall hanging signs, five non-illuminated vinyl graphic signs and one internally illuminated totem sign on land to the south of the A38 and east of West Buckland Road.
The freestanding totem pole is 6 metres high with an LED sign mounted to each side to 45 LUX (115 Watt). Additional signage is to be applied directly to the store including entrance signage, wall hanging signage including vinyl film to be applied to shopfront glazing with opening times.
The cover letter states that consent is being sought for an assortment of signs to the south-eastern and south west elevations of the Aldi footsore and on the southern boundary of the site.
The site sits outside the Wellington settlement boundary within West Buckland Parish.
The signage is described as: “high-quality design, in-keeping with Aldi’s national standardised colour palette and branding, and necessary to advertise the business. Some of the signs will be 3D and illuminated, others will consist of vinyl graphics adhered externally to the unit’s glazing.”
National legislation states: “Advertisement applications are subject to two considerations: (1) public and highway safety issues, and (2) impact upon visual amenity,” while the Development Plan for Taunton Deane is listed in the cover letter and states that is signage is permitted unless: “They are unduly prominent or create visual clutter when viewed with any existing signs.”
Further the cover letter states: “The proposed signs have been designed to respect the appearance of the foodstore occupied by Aldi and to reflect Aldi’s company branding.”
