VOLUNTEERS are needed to pass on their love of reading to children during this year’s Space Chase Summer Reading Challenge in Somerset libraries.
Last year, over 7,400 children took part in the challenge in Somerset thanks to the help of volunteers.
They need to be aged 13 or over and able to give up some of their spare time between July 13 and September 7.
Sue Crowley, Somerset Library Services strategic manager, said: “We are very grateful to the large number of volunteers who step forward each year to support the Summer Reading Challenge.
“Every year, more and more Somerset children take part and our volunteers really help to make the challenge a great success.”
Volunteers help by signing up children to the Summer Reading Challenge when they come into the library, giving out rewards for the books they have read, talking to children about the books, helping them choose their next one, and helping run craft activities.
More information is available on the Somerset Libraries website ‘volunteering’ link, and from local libraries.
The closing date to apply is 22 June 22. Applicants will be invited for an informal chat to assess their suitability for the role.
