SIR — In response to the letter by Gillian Shaw and not wanting to shop locally due to getting a parking ticket for parking on double yellow lines (Free Press October 28), why would you write a letter to the Free Press announcing your thoughtlessness for others and flouting of the law for everyone to read?
Yellow lines are there for a purpose – and, rightly so, Ms Shaw received a ticket.
Restricting where cars park is done for a reason - some of those reasons may not seem so important whilst leaving a car to grab a bunch of flowers for the church.
Although very commendable in getting the flowers for the church, perhaps Ms Shaw should have taken a fellow church friend to run in and get them or perhaps get them delivered.
Parking and flouting the rules does frustrate me - having worked for the emergency services, trying to attend cardiac arrests or other similar life-threatening conditions and failing to negotiate wrongly parked vehicles, I have no sympathy with Ms Shaw’s predicament.
Perhaps next time when you dial 999, will the emergency service get to you - or will they be delayed by irresponsible parking?
