This letter in this week's West Somerset Free Press tells how a simple act of kindness at the Apple Tree Tea Rooms in Minehead spread to others, and is a heartwarming story to renew your faith in human nature. Has something similar happened to you? Let us know in the comments, or email [email protected]

This happened in Minehead recently, and this letter to you is to thank him, in case he reads it.

It was the day after Mothering Sunday, I am 91 and he looked about half that;  it may be part of the story.  Here is what happened. I went to the Apple Tree for a quick sandwich, asked a nice man (reading the Oldie) could I sit at his table, I didn’t disturb him.

He continued reading his Oldie while eating a large slice of cake and then we chatted briefly about The Oldie, and he paid his bill and my bill and left before I could thank him.

So I paid for the six-year-old’s cream scone at the next table and today when I met someone there this morning, the lady told me the parents of that child paid for a lady outside, and then that lady paid for another lady outside. We wonder if this went on further.

Someone told me about a café, either in Northern Ireland or Scotland, where you can pay for two meals and someone who is skint can have one for free.
