ROBINSONS leapfrogged over Watchet in the league table on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 win at their newly-acquired ground.
Watchet's day was strewn with mishaps, starting with the breakdown of their minibus which caused a hasty car dash, the absence of Nick Criddle in midfield and a late kick-off against a side they were well capable of beating.
There were few signs of ill effects in the early stages as the Red and Blacks settled quickly, and on a different day Darren Lyons might have had a first-half hat-trick.
Using his pace to good effect from Steve Wild's service, the striker was unable to capitalise on his gilt-edged confrontations with the Robinsons' keeper and his only on-target effort was saved.
Instead of holding the lead, Watchet were 2-0 down inside half an hour with the unmarked Westlake nodding home the first from six yards and more sloppy defending leading to a simple tap-in to double the tally.
Paul Raymond almost broke through for the visitors, and Dave Ridge might have done better with a header from Wild's corner before half-time arrived with Watchet having failed to carry out their early promise and looking a tired outfit on the heavy surface.
At the start of the second half Robinsons had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out for offside, and Steve Moore brought off a fine save when a goal seemed likely.
Another good chance was missed and the home side's failure to score the third goal which would have put things out of reach always left Watchet in with a sniff of hope.
However, they rarely looked like salvaging anything, despite the threat of Wild creating something and Kevin Harris producing another promising battling display.
Moore was still the busier keeper as Robinsons countered menacingly through the mud, and he changed direction superbly to push away a close range header which took a deflection.
Substitute Ben Saddington was denied a far post header by a last-ditch glance away and Wild himself was well off target with a sliced free kick as a Watchet goal now seemed miles away.
The game ended with the Red and Blacks rueing the fact that they were unable to reproduce their previous week's showing which would surely have been more than enough.
Watchet: S Moore, W Merrick, D Spence, M Clausen, K Harris, D Ruddy, J Munro, P Raymond, D Ridge, D Lyons, S Wild, subs B Saddington, N Sully.
l For tomorrow's trip to Radstock Watchet will hope to have Pat Dorrington returning after work commitments and Nick Criddle back on board, but Kevin Harris is serving a seven-day suspension.
