WORK to improve safety near St Peter’s School in Williton is to take place on Doniford Road for around four weeks from March 4.
Somerset County Council will be installing new signs saying ‘20mph when lights show’, and making minor improvements to signs and lines in the area.
There will be temporary traffic lights in place when required, and as well as the new warning signs and markings on the road, some existing road markings will be refreshed and overgrown grass cleared at the back of the footway.
The council shelved original plans two years ago for a pedestrian crossing with 92 metres of double yellow lines and zig zag marking, after a 60-strong petition from local residents, who were concerned they would no longer be able to park their cars in front of their homes.
