YOUNGSTERS in Watchet have enjoyed a fun-packed summer holiday in the town’s redesigned play space.

The children’s play area in the Memorial Ground has been provided with new equipment including climbing apparatus and a bird’s nest swing thanks to funding from housing developers.

Some of the money from a development of seven linked town houses at Lorna Doone Caravan Park, built by Regal Heritage, has been spent on the play area that was officially launched this week.

The funding, known as Section 106 contributions, was earmarked for improving or providing community facilities/infrastructure in Watchet.

Watchet Town Council was keen to see a lasting legacy for local people and said the investment in children’s play would promote well-being and put the young generation at the heart of the community.

The town council has committed to meeting the costs of maintaining the equipment.
