A NEW face has been elected as the Mayor of Minehead, long-standing town councillor Val Welch (pictured).

Cllr Welch, who represents Alcombe on Minehead Town Council, took over from outgoing mayor Cllr Tony Berry last week.

Minehead North member Cllr Ron Bridle was elected as her deputy.

Cllr Welch thanked her fellow councillors for electing her and promised to work for the benefit of local residents, as well as for community groups and organisations.

She also urged all council members to work together for that aim, irrespective of their individual opinions.
