A FORMER bank vault in Minehead is among the lots going under the hammer at an auction next month.
The vault sits on the site of the town’s former Barclays Bank, in The Parade, and has planning permission which was given in 2023 for conversion to a two-bedroom apartment with a courtyard amenity area.
The property has a freehold guide price of £38,000 and is among 177 lots listed in the first auction of 2026 by Clive Emson Auctioneers, which is one of the top five property auctioneers in the UK.
Senior auction appraiser Audrey Smith said: “The site is located in Minehead town centre, a busy seaside town and popular holiday destination.
“The vault is in the rear tenement of what was previously Barclays Bank and represents one of the more unusual lots at auction, although we regularly have former bank premises in their entirety.
“It comes with benefit of planning permission for conversion into a two-bedroom residential apartment.
“We expect interest from builders and small developers as well as those on the look out for an intriguing project.”
Also nearby in The Parade, to the rear of the old Barclays site, a former coach house site has a freehold guide of £42,000.
It also has planning permission for conversion into a single dwelling.
The online auction concludes on Wednesday, February 11, with bidding live from 48 hours beforehand.
Clive Emson Auctioneers, which holds eight auctions each year, raised just under £200 million for clients in eight online auctions during 2025, with 1,379 lots listed and more than 10,000 new bidder registrations.
Previous lots have included nuclear bunkers, sea forts, churches, clubs, public houses, former public toilets, and historic properties, as well as some more usual homes going under the hammer, which are often of keen interest to local residents.
