A NEW group has been started at St Petrock’s Church in Timberscombe to explore local history and Exmoor heritage.

There has been talk about setting up such a group to since a sell-out lecture in June last year given by Mary Siraut, county editor of the Somerset Victoria County History publications, about the history of Timberscombe.

A meeting last month in St Petrock’s brought quite a number of interested people to discuss what the new group might do.

The first lecture for the St Petrock’s History Group was a slide show entitled ‘A Blacksmith’s Life on Exmoor’ given by renowned master blacksmith Jim Horrobin.

The church was packed with people from Porlock, Allerford, Williton and Wootton Courtenay as well as locals from Timberscombe.

St Petrock’s History Group chairman Marion Jeffrey is already planning the meetings for the next year.
