THE National Trust is inviting potential volunteers to find out more about a range of opportunities at an open day at Fyne Court, near Broomfield, on Thursday June 1.

It will offer the chance to meet the teams and for information about volunteering for the trust in Somerset, both coast and countryside.

Staff and volunteers will be available for an informal chat to talk about the opportunities available, and there will be a chance for people to try their hand at some the activities roles available.

They include working to deliver events and information to the public, gardening, wildlife surveying and helping out with retail and catering.

“We hope to really grow and diversify our team of volunteers in Somerset,” said Jenny Weston, the trust’s visitor experience manager for Somerset coast and countryside.

“If you’re interested, don’t worry about what role you may or may not be able to do. Come for a chat and once we understand your interests, skills, needs and availability, we can find a role to suit you.’

Stuart Riggs, National Trust ranger and conservation volunteer lead, added: “Our volunteers are so important. A volunteer with the National Trust will not only be part of a friendly team but will get the chance to pick up all sorts of skills and knowledge.

“Many find that the practical skills learned are of use in future careers. It’s also a chance to socialise, meet new people and support a great cause.”
