ANYBODY seen increasing the already high fire risk on Exmoor during the heatwave by acting ‘suspiciously, recklessly, or irresponsibly’ should be reported to the police, Exmoor National Park Authority said this week.

A spokesperson said: “Burning property without landowner permission is arson and the police should be told on 101.

“In the event of a fire please report it quickly to the fire service on 999 with the location using the What3Words app.”

Visitors and residents are asked to protect vulnerable moorland by not lighting fires and having a picnic instead of using disposable barbecues.

The spokesperson said: “Do not drop cigarettes, take your litter home, especially glass bottles, which can focus sunlight and increase the risk of starting a fire.”
