YOUNG entertainers took to the stage for a competition that put Minehead's talents to the test.

The annual Minehead Got's Talent contest is hotly contested by around 50 youngsters from the town's middle school every year.

The 2014 event last Friday, which saw pupils singing, dancing, playing musical instruments or taking a turn as a stand-up comedian, attracted a packed audience of families and friends.

And not only did it produce a trio of winners, it also raised almost £600 for the Friends of Minehead School.

Year six pupil Lennie Stanford took the top slot with his version of the song 'Read All About It'.

Runner-up Matthew Knight, also in year six, impressed the judging panel - chairman of governors Martina Forster, special needs co-ordinator Gail Langdon and headteacher Paul Rushforth - playing his ukulele and singing 'House of the Rising Sun'.

And in third place, year eight pupil Becky Smith tugged at the emotions with 'I Dreamed a Dream' from the musical Les Miserables.

Last year's winner, Julius Barmby-King, also performed, reminding the audience of his talents with a drum solo.

"Our thanks go to everyone who came along and supported the event and who contributed to and bought raffle tickets and refreshments," said a spokesman.

"Special thanks to everyone in the school who gave up their time to make it happen and to the judges."
