A REMARKABLE double success is being celebrated in Minehead after the town won gold in the South West in Bloom Awards for a third consecutive year and also received the prestigious Denise James Art in the Landscape Trophy.

A town council spokesperson said: “The awards recognise not only the quality of the town’s parks, gardens, and public spaces, but also the community spirit, environmental stewardship, and partnership working that help make Minehead a special place to live, work, and visit.”

Judging took place in July, during one of the hottest summers on record, but ‘extraordinary efforts’ by volunteers, community groups, businesses, residents, and town council staff showcased Minehead at its best.

Minehead Mayor Cllr Craig Palmer said: “Achieving gold for a third consecutive year is a fantastic achievement and something the whole community should be incredibly proud of.

“These awards are never about the town council alone.

“They reflect the dedication of the many volunteers, community groups, residents, businesses, and organisations who give their time, energy, and enthusiasm to making Minehead a better place.

“Whether it is planting, litter-picking, maintaining community spaces, supporting environmental projects, or simply taking pride in where we live, every contribution plays a part.

“This award belongs to everybody who has helped make Minehead such a welcoming, vibrant, and attractive town.”

Cllr Palmer said receiving the Denise James Art in the Landscape Trophy was a ‘wonderful surprise’ and made this year’s success even more special’.

He thanked everybody who had contributed, from long-established volunteer groups to individuals who could only give a few hours.

Cllr Palmer said: “Every effort has helped secure this outstanding result and demonstrate the pride that exists throughout the community.”

Bloom judges highlighted a strong sense of community throughout Minehead, recognising how local people worked together to improve the town and create spaces to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
