MINEHEAD finished their Somerset League game against Burnham just nine runs short of victory in the damp and gloom of the evening.
At the outset Dave Veale (2-32) and Dave Hurley bowled the first 30 overs between them and contained Burnham to 86-3 but John Bloodworth (30) and Neil Lawrence (25) batted sensibly and supported Alan Ashford, who steadily scored 55 as he occupied the crease for almost the whole of the Burnham innings.
In reply Minehead found batting difficult and the early batsmen never really came to terms with the pace of the wicket and their frustration led to their demise.
Tom Coombes benefited and bowled his allotted 10 overs and took 2-21 and was the pick of the Burnham bowlers.
