MORE than 6,000 visitors flocked to Minehead waterfront over the weekend for the town’s second harbour festival and raised over £10,000 for RNLI funds.

The traditional highlight – Sunday’s raft race – attracted thousands of spectators who saw 28 rafts, both serious and fancy dress.

They competed in perfect conditions in the event, which is now held within Minehead Bay for safety reasons.

The festival, organised by Minehead RNLI and sponsored by Williton-based kayak manufacturers Fatyak and The Old Ship Aground pub, has been hailed a resounding success by the organisers.

It brought in more people and raised more money than the first event held last year.

“We’ve had fantastic feedback from people who thought it was a great couple of days of quality free family entertainment,” said Jim Whittaker, chairman of the RNLI harbour festival committee.
