A RECRUITMENT drive is underway in Minehead for more firefighters to join the town’s fire brigade.

The station needs people with availability during weekday daytime hours and also some weekends.

The on-call roles are paid with flexible contracts depending on the level of cover a person can offer.

A Devon and Somerset fire and Rescue (DSFR) spokesperson said: “Not only do you provide essential support to our community, but you will earn an additional income and receive full training.

“This includes essential and transferable skills such as fire fighting and First Aid that help in any walk of life.”

The Minehead crews had a busy March and April with 48 call-outs, including eight fires in the open and two road crashes.
