Minehead Eye teamed up with skateart.com to help young people keep in contact and interact during lockdown.
They ran a skateboard design competition – and the winners were presented with skateboards bearing their own designs at a socially distanced ceremony at Minehead Eye on Saturday (October 17).
More than 100 entries were emailed in – and were so good that it was decided to add a second category. As well three winners aged under 16 there was a prize for the best entrant under ten.
All except one of the winners – Laura Mills, who came second – were able to attend the ceremony and ride their bespoke skateboards. Other prizes included T-shirts, sunglasses, Minehead Eye membership and lots of stickers.

Backtracking on business rates rises not enough to help West Somerset pubs says MPAndy Westcott, senior youth and community worker at Minehead Eye, said: “It was a great day, although a bit different from what we wanted due to covid restrictions, but fun was had for all.
“This competition was a great success, enabling contact to be maintained with the young people of West Somerset during lockdown when not being able to run youth clubs or open the skate park.
“We hope to repeat the competition in the future.”
