STUDENTS from West Somerset College were given a masterclass in construction by contractors working on the redevelopment of Minehead's Butlin's holiday resort.
Staff at principal contractor McGoff and Byrne, led by contracts manager Harry Galloway, hosted a group of year 11 students, together with their construction teacher, Terry Hall.
The 15-year-olds, all construction students at the college, were given a tour of the site, a meet and greet with various tradesmen and a preview of a show chalet.
McGoff and Byrne is responsible for the entire build and fit-out of the redevelopment scheme at Butlin's.
The project comprises a mix of 117 lakeside, lake view and park view chalets arranged in one and two-storey cluster blocks in landscaped park land around two newly created lakes.
The students learned about timber frames, lake construction, structural steel and green energy.
Mr Galloway said: "It was a pleasure to host the construction students from West Somerset College.
"The scheme worked really well for the students as there was so much going on, each pupil could concentrate on their own particular discipline."
Teacher Mr Hall said the masterclass had been "excellent" and added: "It suited the construction students who all took away lots of information and nuggets of knowledge from site."
Work on the first phase of the redevelopment at Butlin's is due to finish in February 2015.
