THE annual Minehead Triathlon faces cancellation unless volunteers come forward to marshal the course. The event, organised by West Somerset Council and based at the Aquasplash pool, is due to take place next Sunday, July 23. But at least 40 volunteers need to come forward by Thursday - or it will have to be cancelled. People are needed to marshal parts of the cycle course to Porlock and the running course to Dunster Beach. Aquasplash assistant manager Matt Stevens said one reason for the shortage of volunteers could be the start time - marshals need to be at Aquasplash by 7am on the Sunday morning as the event gets underway at 7.30pm. "We've got around 20 marshals at the moment but we need at least another 40 to cover the routes properly," he said. "And unless people come forward by Thursday, we will have to cancel the event." If you can help, you should ring the council on 01643 703704 as soon as possible.
