MINEHEAD could lose a major cancer charity branch if new volunteers do not come forward, a crisis meeting will be told next week.

After raising nearly £100,000 since it began in 1993, Minehead’s Macmillan Cancer Support Group is close to folding due to a lack of officers and helpers.

The chairman and secretary have recently died and most of the committee have given up due to health and age.

And treasurer Trevor John is now the only remaining group officer: “We are in urgent need of new younger volunteers. We are looking for officers and any other helpers but particularly a new chairman and secretary,” he said.

Anyone interested in saving the group is urged to go to an information evening at Minehead Golf Club on Thursday (April 14) from 7pm to 8pm.
