LADY Luna, an orphaned wild-born foal found beside her dead mother on Exmoor, now has a good chance of surviving, with a crowd-funding appeal having so far raised nearly £1,900 to help her.
And the animal world has also rallied round, with two Exmoor ponies, kittens and a dog all playing their part in nurturing the young foal.
As reported in last week’s Free Press, Lady Luna - named for the full moon on the day she was rescued - was found by walkers just over two weeks ago in a remote part of Exmoor in Hoaroak Valley, lying in bracken beside her mother that had died from injuries caused by being caught up in fencing.
She was taken to the Luccombe farm of two of the walkers, Dawn and Nick Westcott, co-founders of the Exmoor Pony Project which helps give Exmoor pony foals a good start in life and promotes the breed, as well as compassionate horsemanship.
A crowdfunding appeal they launched had raised £1,860 by Wednesday, of a £2,000 target to help provide Lady Luna with essential mare replacement milk, feed, vet costs and other ongoing care.
