My family visited King George V playing fields in Alcombe on Father’s Day and were greeted with the scene depicted in the photographs.

Milk or yogurt-based drinks had been poured over the swings and slide and dried to a disgusting paste in the hot sun. Various items of litter were strewn over the grass and in the area of the swings particularly.

In the absence of strong winds and a recent refuse collection, it seems unlikely that this mess had ‘blown in’ from elsewhere.

A discarded carrier bag contained a receipt; all of the items on the receipt matched those littering the area. The date and time stamp suggests that those purchases had been made around two hours before our visit.

Might Alcombe Co-op be able to check their CCTV and identify the individual/s who had made the purchases?

I cleared up the litter (enough to fill a bag), although do not as a rule carry industrial cleaning fluids and scrubbing-brushes to play parks, so the mess on the slide and swings will have to remain until the council remove it (for which I offer my thanks in advance).

I also contacted the non-emergency police line to record the incident.

These parks are a wonderful facility for families and children - please, let’s take better care of them.
