Your report last week on the seafront toilets gives me hope that common sense will prevail and we will have them in use.

I have always thought that it’s a no-brainer. How on earth did we even contemplate scrapping one of the most essential provisions in a town that survives to a large extent on tourism?

The long-erm plan of the town is to expand leisure facilities at the seafront. Also, did the powers that be forget that Minehead is home to a large retired community? Everyone knows that one of the problems we develop in older age is a weak bladder.

Nowadays it is possible to have easy-to-clean toilets and cubicles made of plastic/stainless steel. I am confident most residents would happily pay a little more council tax towards the upkeep of these toilets.

In this context I salute Marcus Kravis who is willing to finance the maintenance of the toilets. The council should be thanking him profusely rather than procrastinating.

If Minehead fails to provide the necessary facilities we should not be surprised if people seek to relieve themselves in unwanted places. As the saying goes, when you’ve got to go you’ve got to go.
