KILVE picked up their third successive victory against bottom of the table Wells on Saturday, winning by eight wickets.
Captain Glen Manchip won the toss and asked Wells to bat on a hard and dry pitch and their opening bowlers, Phil Sylvester and Dinger Larcombe, generated good pace and soon made early breakthroughs. Opening batsman Gerrish was bowled by Sylvester and Thompson was bowled by Larcombe to have Wells on 7-2. Sylvester then had Hargreaves lbw to have Wells reeling on 12-3 after six overs.
The Wells middle order battled with Maynard (23) and Andrews (20) making the score look more respectable.
A further partnership of 63 between Gooch and Churches put Wells back in the game but in the 41st over with the score on 148-7 Churches was caught off the bowling of Kilve's Aussie Shaun Mitchell for 32.
Gooch went on to make 46 no and the Wells innings closed on 172-8.
Sylvester (3-51) had Kilve's best bowling figures with Larcombe finishing with 2-54).
Manchip and Mitchell both claimed a wicket each but the Kilve players were concerned at how they had let Wells off the hook after such early success.
The Kilve batsmen made light work of the chase however. Mitchell was caught behind off the bowling of Rice for 13 and Manchip came and went without scoring.
At 24-2 Dave Cobb joined opener Stuart Lloyd to form an 149 run partnership to take Kilve to victory. Both were rarely troubled by the wells bowlers and soon gained momentum. They regularly picked up boundaries and never felt pressure into taking any risks.
Lloyd, who batted throughout the innings for the third successive week, finished with 83 no and Cobb made an equally thorough 59 no with victory reached in only the 34th over at 173-2.
